Aesthetics aren’t the only reason molders and composites manufacturers should pay attention to pigment dispersion. Proper pigment dispersion can also impart weather resistance, IR reflectivity and other benefits.

Kristine Eisemon, technical systems manager at Plasticolors Inc., will guide attendees through a general understanding of the topic in an education session titled Color Science and Pigment Dispersions for Thermoset Composites at Composites 2010. “I’ll be describing how the properties of pigment dispersion can impact companies and their process and how it can impact field performance,” she says. “There can be processing issues—inconsistent appearance, whether it be not getting the same color every time or a blotchy appearance, or having field failures— putting something outside that’s yellow and six months later it’s brown,” she says.
